The University of Wisconsin-Superior held its annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Program on Wednesday, April 30, honoring outstanding faculty and staff members for their dedication, service, and achievements.
Community Partnership Awards were presented to the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) and Schmitt Music & Debbie Pederson. This award recognizes agencies, organizations, or businesses that have been exceptional partners with UW-Superior.
Emily Groves, outreach program manager for the Center for Continuing Education, received the Community Engagement Award, which honors employees who collaborate with community partners on projects that create meaningful social impact while enhancing research, teaching, or student learning. Groves’ work has had a significant influence on students and has helped meet important community needs.
Lorena Rios Mendoza, professor in the Department of Natural Sciences, was awarded the Excellence in Scholarship/Creativity Award, recognizing her impactful scholarly contributions to her field.
Jenny Kroll, information manager in the Financial Aid Office, received the Helping Hand Award, given to staff members who exemplify outstanding support in helping colleagues succeed in their roles.
Beth Austin, teaching professor in the Department of Communication, Media, and Theatre, was honored with the High Impact Practices Excellence Award. This award celebrates those who excel in mentoring undergraduate researchers, enhancing writing development, or promoting global learning and engagement.
Daniel Lawrence, associate professor in the Department of Writing, Language & Literature, received the Max H. Lavine Award, which honors faculty whose published scholarship addresses major contemporary societal issues.
Outstanding Mentor Awards were presented to Suzannah Crandall, academic program manager in the Educational Success Center, and Donna Lebsack, graduate advisor in the Department of Education. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence in mentoring and supporting student success.
Khadija Ajmal, assistant professor in the School of Business and Economics, received the Rising Star Award. This award honors tenure-track faculty who have demonstrated exceptional promise in teaching, scholarship, and service.
The Students’ Choice for Outstanding Teaching in an Online Program Award was presented to Amanda Zbacnik, associate professor in the Department of Education. Based on student nominations, this award honors online instructors who deliver exceptional learning experiences.
Josh Stangle, associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, was honored with the Students’ Choice for Outstanding On-Campus Teaching Award, also based on student nominations.
Trish Allen, tutoring and testing coordinator in the Educational Success Center, received the University Community Award, which recognizes individuals or groups whose actions consistently foster a welcoming and respectful campus environment.
The Spirit of Superior Award was presented to Zoë Scherer, program associate in the Music Department. This award honors individuals or departments who exemplify UW-Superior’s core values and who make a daily, positive impact on campus climate and community.
