NTW Scholar Award Estimated Costs

Estimated Costs for Students Receiving an NTW Scholar Award

For nonresident students (including non-U.S. citizens) who have been granted an NTW Scholar Award, the University will waive 95% of the nonresident portion of tuition, rounded to the nearest $100 each semester. Awards through the NTW Program do not waive any of the resident portion of tuition.

Since 2006, the nonresident portion of tuition for undergraduate students has been approximately $7,575 each year. As a result, the NTW Scholar Award is worth $7,200 per year. This is subject to change for future academic years.

The figures above do not include medical insurance, which is required and costs $1,685 for 12 months of coverage, or books and supplies, for which students should budget approximately $970 per year. Also not included above are orientation fees ($225) or personal expenses which each individual student ultimately determines. We recommend that students budget at least $1,800 per year for personal expenses. Summer-related expenses and on-line classes are not included in the figures above.

Students who are offered an NTW Scholar Award and who seek F-1 student status must submit bank documents showing a balance of at least US $20,260 in order to be eligible for a Form I-20. As required by U.S. regulations, this amount includes estimates for personal expenses and books & supplies, which will not be owed to the university.

The average increase for university-related expenses in the U.S. is approximately 5% per year. In recent years, cost increases for UW-Superior international students have been 2-4% per year.

Students who qualify for admission are automatically considered for Nonresident Tuition Waivers (NTW’s). No application is necessary.
