Chorfest

Registration begins at 8:30 AM with the first rehearsal beginning at 9:00 AM. The rehearsal day concludes at 5:00 PM and the performance is at 7:00 PM.  

The 2023 UW-Superior Chorfest High School Honors Choir will feature Mozart’s immortal Requiem in D Minor. Incomplete at the time of his death, Mozart’s Requiem remains one of the most powerful and beloved works for choir and orchestra. Under the direction of Dr. Michael Fuchs, students will have the opportunity to share the stage with professional musicians from the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and professional soloists. The festival will also feature performances by the UWS Singers and Chorale, as well as Elaine Hagenberg’s poignant and moving piece, You Do Not Walk Alone. Clinician Michael Fuchs

Dr. Michael Fuchs has enjoyed an active career as a conductor, educator, and singer. He is the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Wisconsin-Superior where he conducts the UWS Singers and Chorale and also serves as the Chair of the Department of Music. He has taught courses in conducting, choral methods, ear training, and music history. Dr. Fuchs is the Chorus Director for the Lyric Opera of the North where he conducts the professional LOON COR ensemble and works closely with operatic productions. He is also the Director of Choral Activities at First Lutheran Church in Duluth where he oversees an active and vibrant choral program.

 

Rehearsal Resources

The Chorfest High School Honor’s Choir will sing the Introit, Dies Irae, Rex Tremendae, Confutatis, and Lacrimosa movement’s of the Mozart Requiem as well as You Do Not Walk Alone by Elaine Hagenberg. The Kyrie movement will be sung only by the UWS Singers and the Tuba Mirum and Recordare are sung by the solo quartet. The score for the Mozart is linked below. Music for You Do Not Walk Alone will be provided after registration.

Registration Fee:

There is a $25 non-refundable participation fee for each student. Lunch and t-shirts are provided for directors and students. Music directors will receive an invoice leading up to the festival.
