Program Overview

The AI Essentials Certificate is a 3-credit course designed for learners who want to build strong, non-technical artificial intelligence skills that support today’s workforce needs. Through a series of interactive Zoom-based workshops and course assignments, you’ll explore core AI concepts, everyday tools, ethical and legal considerations, and effective strategies for boosting productivity with AI.

This certificate provides opportunities to learn with peers who are actively building AI skills and to connect with small business owners and industry professionals using AI in real-world settings. By the end of the program, you’ll have a practical understanding of how AI works and how to apply it responsibly and efficiently in professional environments.


What You’ll Learn

By completing the AI Essentials: Strategies for Efficiency & Productivity certificate, you will:

  • Understand how artificial intelligence functions, its major types, and its applications in everyday and workplace contexts.
  • Apply AI effectively in roles such as assistant, partner, and co-intelligence to enhance productivity and problem-solving.
  • Design, test, and refine prompts and workflows to achieve accurate, ethical, and context-appropriate AI outcomes.
  • Evaluate the ethical, legal, and social issues surrounding AI, including bias, equity, privacy, and accountability.
  • Develop a personalized AI strategy to integrate tools into your professional or organizational workflow for improved efficiency and adaptability.

Certificate Requirements

To earn the AI Essentials Certificate, students must successfully complete the following 10 workshops within a 2-year period:

  9. Working Together: AI, Human Intelligence & the Future of Jobs
  10. AI and What Is Coming Next

Academic Credit Option

Students seeking academic credit may enroll in IDS 499 to earn three undergraduate credits through completion of all workshops and required coursework. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for successful completion.

Non-Credit Option
