
Overview
Through a chemistry major at UW-Superior, you’ll study the properties and reactions of the natural and synthetic substances that make up the world around us and learn how to practically apply that knowledge to real world problems and industries. The chemistry program at UW-Superior provides the added benefit of small class sizes paired with access to unique research facilities and doctoral-prepared instructors who are nationally known leaders in their areas of study. Students may also choose this major to prepare for medical professions or careers in other fields that would benefit from a foundation in chemistry.
With the option of a chemistry minor as well, students in a variety of other majors can improve their understanding of chemistry concepts to aid in their career paths and job prospects.
What You’ll Learn
As a chemistry major, you’ll learn how chemical compounds are studied and used in various applications, such as methods to detect and treat disease, alternative energy, food and agriculture, polymers, paints, cosmetics and much more. You’ll also learn how to create and implement experiments while you collaboratively engage with other students and faculty.
Through a major or minor in chemistry at UW-Superior, you will:
- Understand broad and specific chemistry concepts.
- Be able to apply, analyze and problem-solve.
- Utilize and critique a variety of sources of scientific information for reliability and application.
- Understand, follow, adapt and troubleshoot experimental procedures.

I have had the privilege of working with several faculty members on various research projects, which have been very rewarding in guiding my future career plans. Small class sizes make it easy to get to know your professors in a way that would be difficult at larger universities.
