STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Ayla Ranta
Psychology • Class of 2023 • MSE-Counseling Grad Student
I was looking for an affordable and accredited program in my area that allowed me to graduate within two years and gave me the opportunity to test for my Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) license after graduating. UWS was a practical choice, and it is an affordable program in comparison to other local universities.

Finding Her Path: Kyla Smith’s journey with TRIO and psychology
What a year it’s been! The 2024–25 academic year brought so many unforgettable moments—here are just a few of our favorites.

Our seniors capped off a busy semester by showcasing their work and celebrating all they’ve accomplished last week.

This week, the public leadership and changemaking capstone featured presentations from the program’s first three graduating seniors: Kaito Tsuchida, Sophia Schwartz and Daniella Castiblanco. Professors Lynn Goerdt and Khalil (Haji) Dokhanchi presented each student with cords in recognition of their outstanding achievements. Congratulations to these seniors!

For Olivia Fleming, UW-Superior is more than a campus, it’s a family tradition and a foundation for the future. With deep roots in her Ojibwe heritage and a passion for writing, Olivia has excelled as a student leader, campus contributor and future professor with a powerful story to tell.
