
Overview
Our on-campus theatre and digital filmmaking program will provide you with real-world creative experiences for stage and screen. The “learn by doing” nature of the curriculum teaches you the theory and practice of professional theatre production and digital filmmaking techniques. You’ll have the opportunity to experience everything from acting to designing to writing to directing. You’ll have numerous opportunities to perform, create and collaborate in theatre and digital video projects. Along the way, you’ll discover your creative voice in the dynamic mediums of stage and screen.
Graduates go on to work as writers, producers, directors, editors, designers, actors and more in the highly creative and competitive theatre, film/TV and video production industries.
An on-campus theatre minor is also available in this program for students who want to expand their knowledge and skills in that specific area.
What You’ll Learn
The theatre and digital filmmaking concentration teaches you professional production theories and techniques for stage and screen, and provides hands-on experiences essential to successful careers in theatre and digital film production. Coursework includes learning film and theatre history and creative concepts, writing and acting for stage and screen, techniques of digital filmmaking, theatre direction and so much more. When I first came to UWS I lacked confidence and had a lot of doubt in my ability. My teachers and advisors pushed me to try new things. Their need for me to succeed led me to challenge myself and experience new things. I auditioned for a theater production on campus, I made a film, and all along the way made connections with people that will last a lifetime.

- Gain real-life practical experience performing, directing, building costumes and sets, editing audio and video or writing a screen play

- Showcase your film in the annual UW-Superior Student Film and Video Showcase. Many student projects are also selected for regional film festivals and awards programs
- Participate in public theatre productions including musicals, operas, classical works like Shakespeare and contemporary plays
- Graduates are prepared to go on to work as writers, producers, directors, editors, designers, actors and more in the highly creative and competitive theatre, film/TV and video production industries
