Science of Brewing Certificate

Overview

Whether you’re an experienced homebrewer or just starting out, the Science of Brewing Certificate at UW-Superior offers a hands-on educational experience that explores the science behind brewing. Learn the chemistry behind your favorite brews and apply it directly to the brewing process through in-depth chemical analysis. Guided by UW-Superior faculty and alongside fellow students, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to brew the perfect pint of beer. Participants must be 21+ and successfully complete both courses to earn the certificate.

What You’ll Learn

Through the Science of Brewing Certificate, students will:

• Design innovative projects related to brewing and chemistry.
• Understand the chemical principles that influence the brewing process.
• Conduct experiments and analyze results collaboratively with peers and faculty.
• Learn how chemical compounds are studied and applied in fields like pharmaceuticals, alternative energy, food science, agriculture, polymers, cosmetics, and more.
• Develop the ability to create, implement, and troubleshoot experiments.
• Critically evaluate scientific sources and research papers.
