About

Mike’s experiences, coursework, and research have all focused on a social scientific approach to learning, teaching, and problem-solving. His personal research interests were in motivation and why we do what we do. He applies this and approaches advising through a philosophy of challenge and support and thoroughly enjoys finding the mix to help students succeed and meet their goals. His other campus roles in data and assessment work provide opportunities to blend his quantitative background and communication skills to help provide meaningful and contextualized information to help us continually improve.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys going to the beach (in warm weather) with his family, building puzzles and Legos with his son, barbecuing, maintaining a cichlid tank, as well as spending time learning and playing guitar.
