New UW-Superior faculty make a strong first impression

A slate of exciting research projects led by UW-Superior first-year faculty members have been published in national journals and newly published academic books. In particular, three new faculty members from philosophy, business and nursing are bringing fresh perspectives, new methodologies and vibrant intellectual energy to campus.

Assistant professor of philosophy Kelley Annesley is a new faculty member in the Social Inquire department. She has authored a chapter entitled “Support Per (and For) Evidentialism” in the upcoming book Evidentialism at 40, published by Routledge.

Assistant professor of finance Van Dinh, of the School of Business and Economics, has recently published two articles: one in Journal of Consumer Affairs and another in Journal of Financial Planning; in addition, she has authored a chapter in the forthcoming Research Handbook on Personal Finance at Edward Elgar Publishing.

Assistant professor of business analytics Binghan Kou of the School of Business and Economics published an article entitled “Pricing under consumer habituation: The optimality of a familiarity-based threshold policy” in the journal Production and Operations Management

Associate professor and director of nursing Lorraine Smith published findings from her research study “E-Cigarette Use Prevention Among Youth” in Journal of Addictions Nursing

This type of research plays a key role in shaping approaches to teaching. Students will benefit from exposure to real-time discoveries, opportunities to analyze primary materials, and classroom conversations informed by the latest developments in each field. This connection between active scholarship and pedagogy ensures that course content remains current, dynamic and deeply engaging.

As these first-year faculty settle into their roles, we celebrate and congratulate them on their scholarly contributions. Their dedication to advancing their fields while enriching the classroom exemplifies UW-Superior’s mission to provide a transformative education.
