The University of Wisconsin–Superior is pleased to host Anna Lembke, professor of psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine, for a free virtual presentation titled Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence on Tuesday, October 14, at 4:30 p.m.

In an era of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli – such as drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, and social media – the sheer volume, variety, and potency of these influences have made many of us vulnerable to compulsive overconsumption. Despite this, it is possible to reclaim contentment and genuine connection by understanding and managing our dopamine-driven behaviors.

In this talk, Lembke will offer a practical, science-based framework for addressing compulsive overconsumption in today’s overstimulated world.

Lembke serves as the Chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic and is a clinician-scholar with more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. She has testified before both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, served as an expert witness in federal and state opioid litigation, and is internationally recognized for her contributions to addiction medicine treatment and education.

She is the author of two New York Times bestsellers, including one named among the top five books to understand the opioid epidemic. Lembke also appeared in the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma, which explores the impact of social media on mental health and society.

This event is presented by UW-Superior’s Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being and sponsored by the Student Behavioral Health Initiative, a Universities of Wisconsin priority to support student emotional health and well-being.
