Adaptive Physical Education – Grades K-12

Delivery Method: On-Campus
Type: Certificate

Overview

UW-Superior’s adaptive physical education certificate program prepares you to teach individuals with disabilities and design customized programs. Through coursework and enriching experiences with individuals with disabilities, you will gain knowledge about adapted physical education topics, including human development, motor behavior, exercise science, instructional design, unique attributes of learning, measurement, curriculum development and teaching.

You will also take part in an off-site practicum where you’ll get the chance to work with K-12 students and adults with disabilities.

This set of courses meets Wisconsin certification requirements for the K-12 Adapted Physical Education (APE) (860) supplementary license when paired with the K-12 physical education major. Licensure requires completion of the teacher certification coursework and one semester of student teaching.

Unique Opportunities

  • Learn from experienced APE faculty members with various educational backgrounds.
  • Learn about different content areas of APE and engage in the APE practicum.
  • UW-Superior education programs do not have an enrollment cap, meaning there is no limit on the number of qualified students we accept.
