Overview

Combine your passion for art and teaching through UW-Superior’s art education program, where you’ll learn how to effectively teach students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. With more than 100 years of experience in training teachers, UW-Superior offers a challenging curriculum, intensive interaction with faculty and numerous opportunities to gain teaching experience even before your full-semester student teaching experience or teaching internship.

While our programs are designed to align with Wisconsin state licensure requirements, many students apply for licenses in other states, such as Michigan and Minnesota. We encourage you to check with your state’s Department of Education to determine if there are additional requirements.

Art Education is a comprehensive major program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. It includes the teacher education instruction courses in the degree pathway, which are required for teaching licensure. A minor is not required.

Unique Opportunities

  • Students receive a background in studio art, art history, art education methods, children’s artistic development, and art program planning and evaluation.
  • All of our teacher education faculty have experience working with elementary and middle school students.

Unique Opportunities

The art department at UWS is wonderful. I feel like I have found an artistic community that has welcomed me with open arms and so much enthusiasm. The teachers genuinely care about your work and help you grow artistically with consistent support.
