Program Overview
A career in health promotion and wellness opens endless opportunities for students to serve communities and organizations while making a positive difference in people’s lives. As a student in UW-Superior’s health promotion and wellness program, you will investigate health and environmental issues as they relate to regional, national and global communities.
Choose from the following areas of focus:
- Health promotion and wellness – a broader concentration associated with health promotion and wellness programming, work site wellness programs, health promotion and wellness education and community education through hospitals or other non-profit organizations
- Maternal child health – this area of focus is designed to support careers associated with the facilitation and supervision of infant and youth health programs, maternal education programs offered through hospitals, infant and youth non-profit programs or government agencies that support infant and maternal welfare
*This concentration is comprehensive and does not require a minor. The program is available on campus and online.
What You’ll Learn
Develop the knowledge and skills to help individuals and communities make informed choices that support healthier lives. You’ll explore the connections between health, wellness, behavior and environments while learning how to design programs that promote positive change.
You’ll gain practical skills in:
- Health education and wellness programming
- Community health assessment and partnerships
- Health promotion planning and evaluation
- Nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices
- Prevention, intervention and behavior change strategies
- Understanding mental health and overall wellbeing

Through applied coursework, community partnerships and hands-on experiences, you’ll learn how to create effective health initiatives for diverse populations. You’ll also have opportunities to customize your education through focus areas such as Health Promotion and Wellness or Maternal Child Health.
