Overview
Health problems have plagued our society since the beginning of time, and they will continue to do so. However, you can have a positive effect as you explore the mind-body link between mental health and individual wellness and discover how to provide individuals and communities with the resources and support they need to live healthy lives.
As a student in UW-Superior’s public health program, you will investigate health and environmental issues as they relate to the global community. You’ll learn about the interconnectedness of organizations, resources and people in this area.
Choose from the following areas of focus:
- Public health
- Maternal child health
*This concentration is comprehensive and does not require a minor. The program is available on campus and online.
What You’ll Learn
You will study the science of preventing disease and how organizations, private institutions and society work together to drive informed choices and improve lives. You will explore the link between mental health and individual wellness and discover how to provide individuals and communities with resources to support healthy lives and make positive changes. Through a concentration in public health at UW-Superior, you will:
- Learn how to build community partnerships and coalitions to identify and solve health problems
- Examine health education theories and create professional health promotion plans based on research and theory
- Understand addictions and the roles of family, prevention, intervention and treatment
- Study nutrition and how it impacts overall health
You will also have numerous opportunities to tailor your education to fit your unique interests and goals. This may include additional certifications offered at UWS including:
- AED (automated external defibrillator
- CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
- First Aid
UW-Superior’s public health curriculum has been aligned with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) national standards.
