Leo DiMarco Scholarship

Leo DiMarco Scholarship

For a freshman student with financial need majoring in Health and Human Performance.

About the Benefactors: Coach Leo DiMarco’s Athletes
Coach Leo DiMarco graduated from Superior State Teachers College in 1931 and went on to serve as an instructor, coach and Athletic Director at Superior State, known today as UW-Superior. His players liked to call him an equal opportunity coach because he gave everyone a chance to prove themselves. DiMarco was loyal to his athletes and dedicated to his calling and influenced all of them in his own way. He never forgot that football and basketball were games and that players had lives outside their sports that were equally important. He is described in the 1948 Gitche Gumee, Superior State College’s yearbook, as “one of the most capable and likeable fellows ever to serve Superior State, having an unusual executive ability and thorough knowledge of every sport.”

To honor all Coach DiMarco did, his former players established a scholarship in his name in 2003.
