The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Sustainability Club will host several events for the campus community throughout April in recognition of Earth Week.

“Earth Week is the signature event of the Sustainability Club,” said Lucas Palomino, Sustainability Club co-president. “We try to get as many people involved to celebrate our planet with activities that promote conservation and action. I look forward to seeing a green campus this upcoming week.”

A succulent giveaway will take place Monday, April 17, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union. Participants can pick and take home a free succulent.

On Tuesday, April 18, a nature walk will occur from 4 to 5 p.m. Participants should meet at the Ross Hawkes entrance. Pre-registration is required by emailing sustainability@uwsuper.edu.

Wednesday, April 19, will include environmental expo tabling from noon to 2 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union. In this event, the Sustainability Club collaborated with Professor Deborah Augsburger and ENSC 200: People and the Environment: Challenges & Actions class to support, learn and engage with various student environmental research. In addition, Sustainability Club members will be highlighting their current initiatives, UW System Sustainability conferences 2022 experience and the significance of Earth Week.

Thursday, April 20, the club will be hosting a fun interactive Bamboo Trivia at the Yellowjacket Union atrium from noon to 2 p.m. Topics will range from easy to hard as participants will be tested on their knowledge on sustainability and environment.

A campus cleanup will be held Friday, April 21, from 4 to 5 p.m. The cleanup will start from the main quad and go around campus. Volunteers will be provided with gloves and supplies to pick up trash. To conclude earth week, volunteers are invited to join the volunteer party after the campus cleanup. Pre-registration is required by emailing sustainability@uwsuper.edu.

“I am very much impressed with the enthusiasm, time and effort put forward by the UW-Superior Sustainability Club members to prepare for this year’s Earth Week event,” said Sakib Mahmud, Sustainability Club faculty advisor. “I will encourage our campus community to attend the Earth Week activities to learn about conservation and sustainability initiatives that the students want us to individually and collectively inculcate in our lifestyle.”
