Buzz Tip: tens of thousands of jobs and internships are posted on UW-Superior Handshake every year! Make sure your Handshake profile is as complete as possible and keep it updated to optimize results.

Find Positions on Handshake
  • Reflect on your interests, passions, and the transferable skills you’ve been building. 
  • Research duties and tasks associated with different roles and occupations. 
  • Identify positions and organizations of interest to learn about requirements, environment, and work culture. 
  • Fine-tune your resume. 
  • Prepare for interviewing and practice articulating your experiences. 

Job Search Strategies

Whether you are seeking a part-time or on-campus job, internship or full-time position to launch your career, looking for work can seem like a daunting task. Conducting a job search involves using a variety of resources and strategies, including networking and applying for posted positions. As a UW-Superior student, online job searching is one of your best opportunities to put your critical thinking skills into action.  

Use Handshake and other job boards, career fairs, networking connections, and more to find your next role.

Take advantage of advanced search filters/settings to customize job search platforms like Handshake to your job search goals. On most platforms, you’re able to narrow your search results by different attributes, such as specific titles, locations, skills, lifestyle preferences, industries, employers, salaries or benefits and other aspects. All of this takes trial and error and fine-tuning of your search entries, but it is well worth the effort. Visit our Handshake page for resources and tips.

On-Campus Student Employment

Working on campus is a great way to develop your career readiness skills and gain experience. Find campus employment opportunities on Handshake.

Buzz Tip: ask your professors, academic advisors, classmates, teammates and others about any on-campus openings they may know of. 

Career Fairs

Hundreds of employers come to campus to recruit UW- Superior students and alumni at our career fairs. Find upcoming fairs in the “events” section of Handshake and check out the career events page. Be sure to register for and prepare to attend upcoming fairs. Check out the before the fair checklist to get started.  

Helpful Tips for Job and Internship Searches 

  • Always be networking! Your classmates, teammates, instructors, advisors, friends, family, and family friends are all valuable connections. You never know where these connections will take you professionally. 
  • Drop into Career Services (located in the Link Center, Swenson 1061) to get quick questions answered. 
  • Gather what you need: 
    • Resume detailing your past academic work, employment, student involvement, study abroad, volunteer, experiences, etc.
    • Cover letter/letter of interest describing the reason you are applying, your career interests, and the skills you offer.  
    • Some employers may request an unofficial transcript. 
    • Prepare a list of references that future employers can connect with to learn more about you. 
  • Attend workshops, networking events and job/internship fairs to network and learn about opportunities. 
  • Complete a mock interview and role-play an interview experience to polish your presentation and calm your nerves. 
  • Complete your Handshake profile and keep it and your resume updated as you gather additional experiences. 
  • Connect with employers and alumni through LinkedIn.
